What causes a gummy smile?
A gummy smile usually comes from one of a few causes: gum tissue that covers more of the tooth than it should (altered passive eruption), a upper jaw or lip that sits slightly higher than average, or teeth that are naturally short. Identifying the real cause matters — it decides whether simple gum reshaping is enough or whether a small amount of bone needs adjusting too.
Laser gum contouring
For most patients, excess gum tissue is reshaped with a dental laser in a single, comfortable session under local anaesthetic. The laser trims and sculpts the gum line to reveal more of the natural tooth, with minimal bleeding and fast healing. When crown lengthening is needed
