Implant-Retained Dentures: What They Really Cost in 2026

Implant-retained dentures sit between a normal denture and fixed implant teeth: two to four implants hold the denture firmly so it no longer slips, rubs or needs adhesive. This guide sets out what each type costs in the UK and in Turkey, what the headline prices leave out, and how to tell which option actually suits your mouth.

What an implant-retained denture is

It is a full denture that clips onto implants instead of relying on suction and adhesive. Two to four titanium implants are placed in the jaw, and small attachments on top of them hold the denture in place. You still take it out at night to clean it, but it no longer moves when you eat, talk or laugh. In the upper jaw it can often be made without the plate that covers the roof of your mouth, which brings back taste and comfort.

The three types, and what each costs

Snap-on (locator) overdentures are the most common and the most affordable: usually two implants in the lower jaw, with nylon inserts in the denture that click onto them. Bar-retained overdentures use three or four implants joined by a metal bar; they are more stable and are often preferred in the upper jaw, but cost more. Fixed implant bridges, such as All-on-4 or All-on-6, are screwed in and not removed by you; they are the closest thing to natural teeth and the most expensive option in the UK, which is why many UK patients compare them abroad.

Fixed dentures cost: why the gap is so big

When people search for fixed dentures they usually mean a fixed implant bridge. In UK private practice this is often £10,000–£20,000 per jaw. At our clinic in Kuşadası, All-on-4 starts from €2,400 per arch, or €4,800 for the whole mouth, using Straumann Group / Neodent implants and an on-site laboratory. The difference is mainly running costs and laboratory fees, not the implant brands, which are the same international systems.

Are magnetic dentures the same thing?

Magnetic dentures is often used loosely for any snap-on denture. True magnetic attachments do exist, but most modern implant-retained dentures use locator attachments, which hold more firmly and are easier to service. If a quote says magnetic, ask which attachment system is used and what replacing the inserts costs.

The costs the headline price leaves out

A 3D (CBCT) scan, any extractions, and bone grafting if the jaw has shrunk can all be extra. The nylon inserts in a snap-on denture wear with daily use and are replaced periodically, and the denture itself may need a reline as the gums change. Ask for an itemised quote that separates implants, attachments, the denture, scans and any grafting, so you can compare like with like.

How many implants you need

Two implants are usually enough to stabilise a lower denture, because the lower jaw bone is dense. The upper jaw has softer bone, so four implants are normally used for a removable upper denture, or four to six for a fixed bridge. A CBCT scan shows how much bone you have and whether grafting is needed; long-term denture wearers often have more bone loss than they expect, but angled implants can frequently avoid a graft.

How treatment abroad works

Implants need time to fuse with the bone, so treatment is usually two visits of about five days each, three to six months apart. On the first visit the implants are placed and you leave with a denture to wear; on the second, the final denture or bridge is fitted. Send us photos or a recent X-ray first and you receive a written, itemised plan with a fixed price before you book anything.

Who should keep a conventional denture

Surgery is not right for everyone. Uncontrolled diabetes, certain bone medications, heavy smoking or serious heart conditions can make implants unwise, and some people simply prefer a non-surgical option. A well-made conventional denture is still a good solution in those cases, and an honest clinic will tell you so.

FAQ

+How much do implant-retained dentures cost in the UK?

A snap-on overdenture on two implants is commonly quoted at £3,000–£8,000 per jaw privately. Bar-retained versions cost more, and a fixed implant bridge is often £10,000–£20,000 per jaw.

+How much do fixed dentures cost?

In the UK a fixed implant bridge (All-on-4 or All-on-6) is often £10,000–£20,000 per jaw. At our clinic in Turkey, All-on-4 starts from €2,400 per arch or €4,800 for the whole mouth.

+Can I get implant-retained dentures on the NHS?

Rarely. The NHS funds conventional dentures under Band 3 (£332.10 in England from 1 April 2026), but implants are normally only provided in specific medical cases.

+What is the difference between an overdenture and All-on-4?

An overdenture is removable and clips onto two to four implants. All-on-4 is a fixed bridge on four implants that only a dentist can remove. All-on-4 feels more like natural teeth and costs more.

+Can my existing denture be converted to snap onto implants?

Sometimes. If your current denture fits well and is in good condition, attachments can be added after the implants heal. Often a new denture gives a better result; your dentist can tell you after an examination.

+How long do implant-retained dentures last?

The implants themselves often last for decades with good care. The denture usually needs relining or replacing every few years, and the nylon inserts are replaced more often.

+Are magnetic dentures cheaper?

Not necessarily. Most snap-on dentures today use locator attachments rather than magnets. Compare quotes by number of implants, attachment type and what servicing costs.

+How much is a denture on implants in Turkey?

Implants start from €399 each and All-on-4 from €2,400 per arch. A removable overdenture is quoted after we see your X-ray, because the number of implants and any grafting decide the price.
