Dental tourism in Turkey: how it actually works, start to finish
Search interest in 'dental tourism' has risen sharply this year even as interest in the phrase 'Turkey teeth' has fallen — people still want the treatment, they want it done properly, and they want to understand the process before they commit. Step 1 — the enquiry and what to send
You message on WhatsApp or through the form with a description of what you want and, ideally, a recent panoramic X-ray from your own dentist — most practices will give you one for a small fee. Photographs of your teeth and smile help. Replies come from the patient coordination team within about 30 minutes in working hours; clinical questions are answered by clinicians, not agents. Nothing is sold at this stage; the purpose is to get enough information for the clinical team to plan.
Step 2 — the written plan
Within a few days you receive a written treatment plan: each tooth and procedure, the material and brand (Straumann or Neodent implants, Ivoclar E-max, zirconia), the warranty on each item, the number and length of visits, and a fixed all-inclusive price for the treatment. Alternatives are stated where they exist — a veneer where you asked about a crown, an overdenture beside a fixed bridge. If the honest advice is that the trip is not worth it for your case, the plan says so. You take this document to your own dentist if you wish; it is meant to be checked.
Step 3 — deposit, dates and flights
Only when you have the plan and want to proceed is a deposit taken to reserve clinic time; the balance is paid at the clinic. Dates are fixed around your flights. For UK patients, İzmir is a direct or one-stop flight of roughly 4 hours; from the US, one connection via Istanbul or a European hub. For full-mouth and multi-day packages the clinic books your room at Rest & More by Dedeman and arranges VIP transfers from the airport; single-tooth patients arrange their own accommodation — Kuşadası has hotels at every price — and can request a transfer at cost.
Step 4 — the clinic week
Day one: collection from the airport for package patients, then an examination, CBCT scan and final confirmation of the plan in person — this is where the plan can still change, with your agreement, if the scan shows something the X-ray did not. Treatment days follow: preparation and impressions for ceramics, or placement for implants, with rest days between. Restorations are made in the clinic's own laboratory and tried in your mouth before final fitting. A final check is done before you fly. Kuşadası itself is a resort town: the seafront, the old town, and Ephesus twenty minutes away fill the non-clinical days.
Step 5 — payment, documents and going home
The balance is paid at the clinic by card or transfer against an itemised invoice that matches the plan. You leave with: the invoice, the treatment plan, your X-rays, the written warranties in your name, and — for implants — the Neodent implant passport recording each fixture. Keep all of it; your local dentist will want to see it. Aftercare instructions are given in writing and reviewed with you.
Step 6 — after you land
Routine checks with your own dentist are encouraged; they can remove sutures, clean and X-ray. Any concern goes to the clinic on WhatsApp with a photograph, reviewed by a clinician at no charge. Implant patients return after 3–6 months for the crown or final bridge — a short second visit. Warranties run from the treatment date: up to lifetime on implant fixtures, ten years on E-max, five on zirconia, with the terms you already have in writing.
What is not included, and we would rather you knew
Flights, always. Accommodation and transfers for single-tooth treatments. Travel costs for any warranty visit unless agreed in your plan. Treatment not on the plan — which is why the plan is confirmed in person on day one before anything begins. Sedation, if requested, is quoted separately. There are no hidden line items because the plan is the invoice; the only surprises are ones the CBCT scan reveals on day one, and those are discussed with you before they are treated.
